Tokelau Language Week

Sunday 25/10/2020

Of the 295,941 total Pacific population in the New Zealand Census 2013, approximately 2.4 percent or 7,173 Pacific people identified themselves as Tokelauan. Vāiaho o te Gagana Tokelau recognises the importance of upholding the language of Tokelau and for Kiwis with Tokelauan roots to remain connected to the culture. And of course you don't have to be from Tokelau to celebrate the week. Take the time to learn some basic greetings or to extend your knowledge of Tokelau. There's nothing to lose! The Ministry of Pacific Peoples has put together this Language Resource Sheet and Fact Sheet to provide information for anyone keen to learn more.
