Chinese New Year

Friday 12/02/2021

Chinese New Year is up on us! Saying farewell to the Year of the Rat (and what a year it was), we welcome in the Year of the Ox. According to custom, the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac bring unique qualities. Rats are known for their industrious nature and quick-wittedness, while the Ox is famed for endurance, honesty and dignity.

As a result of the change in Alert Levels, Auckland Lantern Festival has been postponed until Thursday 4 - Sunday 7 March, on Captain Cook and Marsden Wharves. This is a free event, but booking is required. Tickets are limited and you can book here.

The traditional new year greeting wishes good fortune; “Gong xi fa cai” in Mandarin and “Gong hei fat choy” in Cantonese.

Happy new year!
