Who to vote for?

Sunday 24/09/2023

The 2023 General Election will be held on 14 October 2023. Remember...

If you’re eligible, you must enrol. You’re eligible to enrol and vote if you are:

- 18 years or older and

- a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and you’ve lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months or more at some time in your life.

The Electoral Commission has videos with information on how to vote in a general election:

EnglishTe Reo Māori / Gagana Sāmoa / Lea Faka-Tonga / Korean / Hindi / Simplifed Chinese / Traditional Chinese / NZSL

But who to vote for?

Candidates and parties will have websites outlining their policies, values, and why they think you should vote for them.

But if you want to get a more objective comparison of the issues that matter to you, The Spinoff has launched policy.nz and TV 1 has a Vote Compass, both of which have been designed to help you decide which parties and candidates hold policies most aligned with your own values.
