Rotuman Language Week / Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta

Sunday 09/05/2021

Located 646 kilometres north of Fiji's capital Suva, Rotuma is an isolated island with its own unique  language, culture, and identity. The theme for this year’s Rotuman Language Week is Tutur häk ne måür lelei – the four pillars of life and wellbeing:

Måür Fak'ata (spiritual - a place of solace that gives meaning to life)

Måür Fakforo (physical - living life in all its fullness)

'Os A'häe (psychological - steers our presence and place in life)

Hạikạinagaga (social - our connection with people)

Listed on the UNESCO list of vulnerable languages, New Zealand’s Rotuman community works hard to preserve and promote the Rotuman langauge. In celebration of Rotuman Language Week / Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta 2021 there will be events throughout the week including story tellings sessions, a youth panel, and even Zumba sessions!
