Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is upon us! Saying farewell to the Year of the Rabbit, we welcome in the Year of the Dragon. According to custom, the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac bring unique qualities. Dragons are known for being charismatic, intelligent, confident and powerful, and are naturally lucky and gifted.

Officially the year of the Dragon start February 10 this year and, as is tradition, celebrations continue for fifteen days. 

On Feb 3, Auckland Showgrounds in Epsom is host to the 2024 Chinese New Year Festival & Market Day, thanks to the Auckland Chinese Community Centre.

And from February 22nd-25th, the iconic Auckland Lantern Festival will be held at the Manukau Sports Bowl. 

The traditional new year greeting wishes good fortune; “Gong xi fa cai” in Mandarin and “Gong hei fat choy” in Cantonese.
