The Many Meanings of Easter

Tuesday 27/03/2018

Before the Christian Resurrection of Jesus, Easter was a festival of the North Spring Equinox.  The Greek Dionysus was a divine child who was resurrected by his grandmother. The ancient Middle Eastern cult of Cybele relates the legend of her lover Attis as being born of a virgin, dying and being reborn annually.  All the old stories of rebirth point to the ‘rebirth of the sun’ in Spring and we rejoice with symbols of new life – like eggs and the fertility of rabbits.  So whatever your belief you can take the Easter holiday to consider new life and the possibilities of resurrection with new beginnings, new possibilities and a special respect for the many renewals of Nature.

Happy Easter everyone … and remember, there’s much more to life than chocolate.
