Manukau Indian FM

Ram Ram, Namaste and welcome! Manukau Indian FM is a registered charity whose vision is to connect communities with the Hindu, Sanatan, and Indian culture. The programme showcases the history, traditions and festivals of India and Fiji through storytelling and music, including rare Fiji Indian songs. Presenters

  • Producer / Presenter: Praneil Chandra

    Praneil holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Statistics but his formal training extends to Philosophy, Music, Politics, Mathematics, Psychology, Management and General Sciences.  His artistic pursuits include singing, songwriting and playing the harmonium, as well as Rangoli and drawing. He also enjoys cricket, soccer, archery, and yoga. Praneil’s family history is deeply rooted in the Girmit system of indentured labour that brought many Indians to Fiji under the British colonial rule.

  • Presenter: Shweta Prabhaka

    Shweta is the founder of the Sanskriti School of Passion, which teaches various forms of dance, art and craft to children and adults, as well as Hindi and maths. Committed to social service, Shweta runs free courses for the community and uses her podcast and radio platform as part of her social outreach. She currently works at the University of Auckland and is the author of Fake vs Fake: The Darkness of Social Network Sites.   

  • Presenter: Apoorva Yogi

    Apoorva has a background in Biotechnology but her expertise extends to events and writing, and her interests include music, reading, and travel. Eager to exchange ideas and viewpoints while embracing others' perspectives, she hails from a family deeply rooted in poetry, culture, and media.  She is a passionate and expressive writer, a skill that adds depth and personal insight to her broadcasting.

  • Presenter: Pravind Kumar

    A seasoned Human Resources professional, Pravind’s passion is Hindi and music particularly in Fiji's history, sugar economics and poverty. He actively engages in Girmit broadcasting, undertaking recent research on Taveuni's sugar mills. Pravind generously volunteers for various organisations in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, providing expertise to cultural and community groups.

  • Presenter: Anjna Sharma

    A proud mother and grandmother with a passion for Hindi poetry, Anjna finds solace in writing, considering it a cathartic release. A master’s degree reified her deep connection to Hindi and her belief in the power of the language for heartfelt expression. Anjna is proudly supported by her husband who has a background in journalism.

  • Presenter: Kamini Rachna

    Kamini is an experienced Nursing professional. She has a deep interest in the Hindu culture and sings chautal, faag, sohar, lok geet and kirtan. Originally from Labasa in Fiji, she now resides in Brisbane, Australia. Her father was Late Ram Autar, the former principal of Guru Nanak Secondary School Labasa. Kamini regularly volunteers for a various community groups.
