If you’re wanting to be Irish for a day or a week here’s your chance. From March 10th to 17th there are events celebrating St. Patricks Day and aspects of Irish culture. Auckland City is turning green on Friday 16th with the Harbour Bridge, Sky Tower, Auckland Museum and other notable Auckland buildings joining some 300 structures around the world marking Ireland’s favourite day. March 17 is reputed to be the day of St. Patrick’s death in 461 and is a public holiday in Ireland.
A variety of bars are adding entertainments. There’s a fundraising ball for Mercy Hospice, a film screening introducing Ireland’s centenarians, an Irish Society Fair Day, a business breakfast, a whiskey tasting and the week culminates on Saturday 17th with a Parade on Ponsonby Road from midday. Follow the parade to Western Park and you’ll find an Irish Music and Dance Festival until 6pm. Check out the St. Patrick’s Day Auckland website and Facebook Page
